Wrestler slaps notorious Pune gangster Nilesh Ghaywal at Dharashiv event, video goes viral
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Pune's notorious gangster Nilesh Ghaywal was publicly slapped by a wrestler during a wrestling event at Andarud village in the Dharashiv district late on Friday night. The altercation, which took place during the annual fair organised in honour of Jagdamba Devi, a local deity, was captured on video and is now being widely circulated on social media.
According to police and eyewitness accounts, Ghaywal, who is associated with people organising the wrestling competition as part of the festivities, entered the wrestling arena to meet the participants. As he interacted with participants, one young wrestler stepped forward and struck Ghaywal across the face. Ghaywal's associates rushed to his defence and beat up the attacker, but he managed to escape.
The assailant was later identified as Sagar Moholkar, a wrestler from Nanaj village in the Ahilyanagar district.
Dharashiv's Vashi police station inspector Sangarm Thorat told TOI, "As no one came forward to lodge a complaint, police became the complainant and lodged an FIR under section 194 (2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. As it is a bailable offence, Moholkar was questioned and issued a notice before being released."
Police officers said if they receive a complaint from either the organisers or the man who was slapped, they will register a fresh FIR.
Sources said despite questioning Moholkar to determine why he targeted the gangster, nothing concrete emerged by the time the wrestler was released. Moholkar's criminal history has added a shocking twist to the incident. According to Vashi police, the wrestler, during questioning, said he was previously booked in murder cases. In one instance, he was arrested and sent to prison for murder, and while serving his sentence, there was a brawl resulting in another inmate's death.
"Moholkar's revelation about his past has raised serious concerns about his background and possible gang affiliations," said another police officer.
The video of Moholkar slapping Ghaywal in front of a large crowd has sparked widespread discussion in both Dharashiv and Pune. There is speculation about whether the attack was personal, political, or linked to larger gang rivalry.
